i normally do this with the selective brush in snapseed and it does lift the dark half of a face, but it smears the skin texture right along the edge of the mask. pushed the same frame through RemoveShadow and the stubble and the pores were still there once the shadow flattened. that's the only thing i compared, no idea how the two stack up on scanned paper.
